Surah Fajr lessons

وَالْفَجْرِ

A Muslim begins his day by praying in congregation, reciting the Qur’an and remembering the remembrance of Allah. Reciting and listening to the Holy Quran in the morning is a great virtue.

وَلَيَالٍ عَشْر

According to most commentators of the Holy Qur’an, 10 nights mean the first 10 days of “Dhu al-Hijj”. Hazrat Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, praised these days and said that no good day is more excellent than these nights. companionsرضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ of Prophet Muhammad (PUBH) asked, “Not even Jihad.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Except for the one who risks his life and wealth to wage Jihad and does not return with any of them.”

 وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ

“Even” (al-shaf’) refers to the creation of Allah which Allah has created in pairs or contemporaries, such as man and woman, day and night, earth and sky and many more.

“Odd” (al-witr) refers to Allah Himself alone, His attribute is uneven. It also refers to phenomena that have no counterpart, such as heaven, hell, soul, etc.

وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ

هَلْ فِي ذَ‌ٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِي حِجْرٍ

All these examples (presented in verses 1 to 5 of this surah) are separate surahs but their meanings are similar. The kind mentioned here is about worship itself or places of worship. , such as Hajj, Namaz, Zakat and other acts of worship that are done to be with Allah.

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ

إِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِ

 الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِ
